HULL FIRM POWERS ON WITH COLLEGE IMPROVEMENTS

15 December 2025 by Googler

A Hull-based building services engineering company has completed the first year of a three-year electrical maintenance contract with Hull College, which has already resulted in major energy savings.

The partnership between GW Power and Hull College has already delivered significant improvements across the college’s estate, supporting its commitment to sustainable transport and greener campus operations. A major project in the first year has been the successful installation of seven 22kW electric vehicle (EV) chargers at the college.

Alongside this, the company has carried out a wide range of maintenance and upgrade projects, including routine maintenance work, electrical conditioning reports, compliance testing and LED lighting upgrades across nine buildings, one of which is an eight-floor tower block.

Two full-time GW Power engineers are based on site, dedicating at least 40 hours each week to improving the college’s infrastructure, and the pair both began their careers as apprentices at the college, which is a testament to the long-standing relationship between the two organisations. One of them recently completed his Level 3 Electrical qualifications, marking another milestone in GW Power’s ongoing investment in skills and local talent.

Daniel Haley, managing director of GW Power, said: “Reaching the one-year mark on this contract is something we’re incredibly proud of. Our on-site team has worked tirelessly to keep the college’s facilities safe, efficient and compliant, whilst also delivering tangible improvements such as the EV chargers and LED upgrades. What makes this contract even more special is that both of our engineers started their careers at Hull College – as did I!”

Matthew Blowman, Director of Facilities and Infrastructure at Hull College, added: “GW Power has become an integral part of our operations over the past year. The company’s reliability, professionalism and technical expertise has helped us maintain high standards across a complex estate. The improvements made so far have already had a positive impact on our energy efficiency, sustainability goals and enhancing the learner experience.”

Founded in 2014 by Daniel Haley, GW Power provides a full range of renewable energy, mechanical and electrical solutions to clients across the UK. The company now employs 43 staff and continues to expand, recruiting apprentices and qualified engineers to support its growing portfolio of projects.
