Buildings are more connected than ever, but Mymesh is challenging the industry to look beyond the number of connected devices and ask a more important question: is the building actually becoming more intelligent?

At the Smart Buildings Show 2026, taking place at ExCeL London across the 14th and 15th of October, Mymesh will explore how connected infrastructure can turn building data into useful information that supports better decisions around energy, occupancy, maintenance and building performance.

Exhibiting on Stand C10, the team will demonstrate how Mymesh provides a secure, scalable and robust wireless infrastructure capable of connecting, managing and monitoring lighting, sensors and other building services.

Modern buildings can generate significant amounts of information through lighting, sensors, HVAC, emergency systems and other connected services. The challenge for building owners, facilities managers and property teams is making that information useful.

Rather than creating separate networks for individual applications, Mymesh provides a single scalable wireless infrastructure that can connect lighting, sensors, switches and other compatible devices.

Lighting offers a particularly practical starting point because it is already distributed throughout a building. Using this existing infrastructure as the foundation for connectivity can enable organisations to begin capturing information from across an estate, with the network able to extend into applications including HVAC, ventilation, emergency lighting, indoor positioning and asset tracking.

This approach has applications in both new and existing buildings. In new-build projects, considering connectivity earlier can help consultants, contractors and operators take a more coordinated approach to building systems and the information they generate.

For existing buildings, wireless infrastructure can provide a less disruptive route to introducing intelligent control and monitoring, reducing the need for additional cabling while allowing the system to evolve as requirements change.

The information generated can also support building safety and compliance. Automated monitoring and testing can provide clearer records of system performance, identify faults and create an evidence trail for facilities teams, while keeping human responsibility and professional judgement at the centre of decision-making.

Ashley Bateup, Managing Director of Mymesh UK, said: “The term ‘smart building’ is used widely, but a building does not become intelligent simply because more devices have been connected to it. The real value comes from creating an infrastructure that turns information into something useful. Buildings operate for decades, and their use, occupancy and performance requirements will change significantly during that time, so the technology we install needs to adapt with them.

We need to move the conversation away from collecting data for its own sake and towards actionable insight: what is the building telling us, what needs attention and how can that information support safer, more efficient and better-managed environments?”

Ashley will expand on these themes as part of the Smart Buildings Show conference programme. His session, “Lighting and Climate Convergence: A New Paradigm for Smart Buildings,” takes place in the Controls & Networks Theatre on Thursday 15 October from 1.00 PM to 1.35 PM.

The session will explore how occupancy-led intelligence can enable lighting and climate control to respond to the way spaces are actually being used, supporting energy efficiency, occupant comfort and better operational insight while reducing complexity across design, installation and commissioning.

Visitors to Stand C10 will be able to meet the Mymesh team, have the potential to partake in Podcast sessions and explore how a scalable wireless infrastructure can be applied to new-build and retrofit projects, from lighting and environmental control through to monitoring, compliance and wider building intelligence.
