JTL to Host Birmingham Open Day to Connect Local Employers with Future Talent as National Apprentice Recruitment Campaign Launches

28 July 2025 by Googler

JTL, a leading training provider for electrical and plumbing apprenticeships across England and Wales, is pleased to invite local employers and prospective apprentices to its upcoming Open Day at the JTL Birmingham Training Centre. The event forms part of JTL’s new nationwide apprentice recruitment campaign, ‘Powering Apprenticeships. Fuelling Your Career’, which aims to encourage school leavers to explore high-quality apprenticeship opportunities in the skilled trades.

Taking place on Saturday 16th August from 10am to 2pm, the event offers attendees the opportunity to explore JTL’s training offer, connect with staff and partners, and discover how apprenticeships can support long-term business and career growth.

Guests will be able to tour JTL’s modern workshops and classrooms, gaining a first-hand look at the high-quality facilities that support the development of the next generation of skilled tradespeople. The event will also give visitors the chance to meet Chris Claydon, JTL Chief Executive and Neil Hammersley, Delivery Team Manager at JTL Birmingham, along with the centre’s team of dedicated training officers and tutors who will be available to offer expert guidance and advice throughout the day.

The Open Day has been designed to help both new and existing employers understand how apprenticeships can contribute to business resilience, productivity and workforce development. Employers will receive tailored support around apprenticeship funding, onboarding processes and the practical benefits of investing in work-based training.

Alongside interactive ‘have-a-go’ sessions and guided tours, attendees can take part in a dedicated Employer-Apprentice Match Area, where businesses will be able to connect directly with potential apprentices. Local businesses and partners will also be exhibiting as part of a mini trade fair, creating valuable networking opportunities and a space to strengthen relationships within the sector.

Complimentary ‘Grab & Go’ breakfast options will be available throughout the day for all visitors.

By attending, employers and prospective apprentices will gain a deeper understanding of how JTL supports the development of a skilled workforce and how they can be part of a training community committed to shaping the future of the building services engineering industry in the West Midlands.

Neil Hammersley, Delivery Team Manager at JTL Birmingham said: “We’re really looking forward to opening our doors to new and existing employers, prospective apprentices and the wider community here in Birmingham. The Open Day is about giving people the chance to see our training centre in action – to speak with tutors, try out practical skills and understand how apprenticeships can support careers and grow businesses. Whether you’re new to apprenticeships or already working with us, this is a fantastic opportunity to connect and explore what’s possible.”

The event coincides with the launch of JTL’s new apprentice recruitment campaign: ‘Powering Apprenticeships. Fuelling Your Career’. Running across July and August, the campaign is aimed at attracting school leavers considering alternatives to university or college and encouraging them to explore apprenticeship opportunities with JTL. The campaign will also engage parents, carers and careers advisors, highlighting JTL as a trusted, supportive route into a skilled and rewarding career.

Together, the Open Day and campaign launch form part of JTL’s ongoing effort to strengthen employer partnerships, develop local talent, and respond to increasing demand for skilled professionals across the region.

Chris Claydon, Chief Executive of JTL, said: “This is a crucial moment for young people as they make decisions about their future. Our new apprentice recruitment campaign is designed to help them see the value of a career in the skilled trades – not just as a job, but as a long-term, rewarding profession. Apprenticeships offer real-world experience, qualifications and a strong foundation for success. We want school leavers and their families to know that with JTL, they’ll be supported every step of the way.”
