Life changing £1 million Electrical Safety Fund open for applications

17 August 2026 by Googler

Local groups and organisations across the UK are being invited to apply for a share of £1 million to help protect people from electrical dangers in the home.

Applications open on Monday 17 August for consumer safety charity Electrical Safety First’s annual Electrical Safety Fund, which is now in its fifth year.

The Fund provides grants of up to £10,000 to support projects that reduce electrical risks, raise awareness of electrical safety and encourage safer behaviours. Funding is also available for practical initiatives that improve the safety of electrical installations in homes and communities.

Last year, the Fund supported more than 200 projects, reaching over 1 million people across the UK and directly benefiting over 150,000 individuals through initiatives including repair cafés, portable appliance testing and replacement events.

One project, delivered by Flosverse, developed a cartoon-style interactive game where children progress through different levels as they explore a virtual home, spot potential electrical hazards and learn how to stay safe.

Another, led by Home-Start Lambeth, trained home-visiting volunteers to carry out basic electrical safety checks while supporting families with young children.

George Smith, Senior Grants and Outreach Officer, at Electrical Safety First, said: “Communities know best how to support the people they serve, which is why we’re proud to help bring local ideas to life through the Electrical Safety Fund. Whether it’s repairing unsafe electrical items, improving installations or helping people recognise everyday electrical hazards, these projects can have a lasting impact.

“Last year, the fund supported more than 200 projects, which reached hundreds of thousands of people across the country. By backing innovative local projects that raise awareness, change behaviour and tackle dangerous electrical installations and products head-on, we can help prevent tragedies and make a real difference to people’s lives.”

Applications are encouraged from a wide range of not-for-profit organisations, including fire and rescue services, trading standards authorities, community safety organisations, charities and educational institutions.

Organisations have from Monday 17 August until Sunday 27 September to apply.
