Marshall-Tufflex has welcomed the publication of a new industry guidance document from BEAMA designed to help improve the safety, design, installation and inspection of cable management systems in buildings.

The new publication, Prevention of Premature Collapse: A Guide to the Design, Installation and Inspection of Cable Management Systems, has been developed by BEAMA’s Cable Management Technical Committee and brings together best practice guidance to support compliance with BS 7671 requirements relating to the prevention of premature cable collapse in the event of a fire. The guide is intended to assist designers, specifiers, installers, inspectors and building owners in ensuring cable management systems are installed and supported correctly, helping to protect both building occupants and emergency responders.

Marshall-Tufflex played an active role in the creation of the document through its participation in the BEAMA Cable Management Technical Committee, working alongside fellow manufacturers and industry stakeholders to develop practical guidance for the electrical industry.

The guide highlights the importance of adequately supporting wiring systems so they remain secure under fire conditions, reducing the risk of cables collapsing and creating hazards for firefighters and building occupants. It also provides guidance on design considerations, installation practices and inspection requirements to help ensure compliance with current regulations.

“Preventing the premature collapse of wiring systems is a critical aspect of building and life safety. As buildings become more complex and electrification continues to increase, it is essential that designers and installers have access to clear, practical guidance that supports safe and compliant installations. We are proud to have worked alongside BEAMA and our industry colleagues to develop a resource that will help raise standards and improve safety across the industry.”     Martin Russell, Marshall-Tufflex Group Product & Technical Services Manager and BEAMA Chair of the Premature Collapse Working Group.

To coincide with the launch of the guide, BEAMA has also released a podcast where Nick Hayler, Director of Member Services & Head of Building Electrical Systems talks to Martin Russell. They discuss the importance of preventing premature collapse of wiring systems and the role that compliant cable management solutions play in protecting building occupants. The discussion provides valuable industry insight into the challenges facing specifiers and installers, the rationale behind the guidance, and the practical steps that can be taken to enhance fire safety in modern buildings.

Marshall-Tufflex encourages contractors, consultants, specifiers and installers to familiarise themselves with the guidance and consider how the recommendations can be incorporated into future projects.
