NAPIT has thanked its staff, supporters and businesses for helping to raise over £9000 for Samaritans, its chosen charity for 2025. Samaritans offer emotional support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, to anyone who is in distress, lonely, struggling to cope, or feeling suicidal.
It is an incredible charity that is needed now more than ever, and the fundraising efforts help fund the crucial work Samaritans do to prevent suicide and provide hope. NAPIT staff set out with a goal of £4,000 and in total have raised £9,017.
The total funds raised can allow the Samaritans’ volunteers to answer 907 potentially life-saving calls. The Phenna Group’s charity matching program significantly boosted the final total, matching funds raised by NAPIT.
Throughout the year, NAPIT hosted a range of fundraising activities such as team challenges and games, themed events, raffles and the annual Sponsored Walk, which brought together staff who walked 22 miles on the Bolsover Loop.
In support of World Mental Health Day, staff took part in the Samaritans Sponsored Dawn Walk, which was a great opportunity for staff to connect outside the workplace.
Supporting the Samaritans has provided an opportunity for more conversations surrounding mental health at NAPIT. In a report by Ironmongery Direct, 56% of tradespeople revealed that they don’t talk to anyone about their mental health.
A male-dominated industry doesn’t have to be lonely; opening up and being vulnerable is a step closer to breaking the stigma. This messaging has been key alongside NAPIT fundraising efforts throughout the year.
NAPIT has shared meaningful stories from Simon Mayo from Men’s Suicide Prevention Charity ANDYSMANCLUB, NAPIT Member Chris Edrige, encouraging men to open up and reminding them they are not alone. NAPIT Field Officer Andrew McDonald shared moments when he faced struggle and the power of seeking support.

“Looking into 2026, NAPIT are proud to support Ashgate Hospice as our nominated charity.”
Ashgate Hospice provides specialist care and support for people living with life-limiting and incurable illnesses. Their mission is to ensure patients and their families receive compassionate care, whether in the hospice, at home or in the community.
