Powered Now launches free toolkit to guide electricians through upcoming Making Tax Digital for Income Tax changes

16 February 2026 by Googler

Powered Now has announced the launch of its Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD IT) toolkit of free online resources designed to help self-employed electricians navigate the changes to tax reporting.

Research conducted by the UK’s leading job management software found that only 27 per cent of those surveyed knew anything about MTD IT, and just 23 per cent have taken preparatory action. The new, free-to-download toolkit aims to provide clear, practical guidance tailored specifically to the trades.

MTD IT will come into force from April 2026, with sole traders earning over £50,000 annually required to keep digital financial records and send tax updates online every quarter. According to government figures, an estimated 2.9 million self-employed tradespeople will be impacted once the threshold for MTD IT is lowered to £20,000 per annum, which is expected from April 2028 onwards.

The online toolkit of resources walks users through what MTD IT is, who it applies to, and what steps tradespeople need to take before the new rules come into force, with timelines, readiness checklists, and practical advice that users can put into practice.

Speaking on the launch of the toolkit, Benjamin Dyer, Founder and CEO of Powered Now, said: “The team at Powered Now works with great tradespeople who are brilliant at what they do on-site. But let’s be honest, paperwork and admin are usually the last thing they want to deal with.

“That’s where we come in. We’ve built tools that actually make sense, without drowning people in rules or confusing language. The goal is simple: help trades handle the changes coming with MTD IT in April, stay compliant, and get back to doing work they actually enjoy.”

Powered Now’s latest software update provides further support for MTD IT, with improved invoicing capabilities and new AI-powered features to allow tradespeople to streamline and reduce the amount of time spent on admin.

The MTD IT toolkit is available now and can be accessed free of charge online at www.powerednow.com/mtd-for-income-tax
