Shell’s Technical Manager, Mpho Mokwena, shares insight into how industrial lubrication solutions can help mining operations improve equipment reliability, increase uptime and reduce total cost of ownership.
He sees key trends in the lubrication industry in the foreseeable future to be digitisation of customer-centric solutions and decarbonisation.

“For instance, we introduced an automated greasing solution recently which is Bluetooth-enabled where operators are able to manage their greases from up to 90m away from where the grease is actually applied.”
“Now that gives operators sufficient time to do other things.”

Mokwena says oil condition monitoring is another space where Shell has introduced digital solutions for real-time condition monitoring.
He also explains how sensors in the oil eliminate unplanned downtime and encourage proactive decisions.
