The Roof of Africa – the legendary “Mother of Hard Enduro” – is big, it’s brutal, and it’s back! Running from Wednesday 23 to Saturday 26 September 2026, this iconic event will see 500+ riders push themselves and their machines to the absolute limit across the Maloti Mountains.
To keep every bike race-ready, Motul is bringing back its popular Bike Wash and teaming up once again with Craig Kruger and his crew from Extreme Clean. Motul has supported the Roof for over a decade, partnering with Craig’s veteran team – most of whom bring 10+ years of bike wash experience – to deliver top-tier cleaning and maintenance in one of the toughest terrains on earth.
Setting up camp at Music Box (the Start/Finish for the event) on Thursday 24 and Friday 25 September 2026, the Bike Wash facility will feature 8 cleaning stations, alongside dedicated Chain Clean & Lube and Helmet Cleaning Stations.
Central to the operation is Motul’s commitment to environmental responsibility. In line with the company’s global ethos, “Protect your Playground”, the wash facility exclusively utilizes Motul’s eco-friendly, fully biodegradable bike wash. This high-performance formula cleans away mountain muck and grime with ease, while ensuring minimal harmful chemicals runoff into Lesotho’s sensitive mountain ecosystems and water sources.
The service is completely free and open to all bikes across every class – from global stars in the Hard Enduro World Championships and national Gold class contenders, to returning ‘addicts’ and first-time warriors in Silver, Bronze, and Iron.
The weather in the Kingdom of Lesotho is famously unpredictable, but whether riders face dust or mud, the team is prepped for anything.
“Supporting the rider community at the Roof of Africa for over a decade has been a true labour of love for everyone at Motul,” says Mercia Jansen, Managing Director of Motul South Africa. “Year after year, the Bike Wash gives us the opportunity to show up for the riders and engage with them during one of the toughest races in the World, all while making sure we tread lightly on Lesotho’s beautiful mountains with our eco-friendly wash.
Beside the wash bays, riders will have access to Motul’s superior MC Care product range to prep their drivetrains and headgear for the next day’s stage.
“Our MC Care range is formulated specifically for superior performance under punishing conditions,” adds Jacky Van Der Merwe, Business Development Manager at Motul SA. “When machines are pushed this hard, premium maintenance products are vital for bike reliability, visor clarity, and rider safety out on the route.”
