Freedom Won was officially founded in 2012 upon the completion of our first electric vehicle conversion – the now famous electric Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The Jeep served as a test bed for the then relatively unknown, but exceptional, Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery technology, that later took the world by storm. Freedom Won placed all bets on this technology in 2009 because of its excellent safety characteristics and long service life. Battery Management System (BMS) technology was also tested and developed in the Jeep from this early stage.

Freedom Won remains the largest energy storage manufacturer in Africa and leads the market in product innovation, performance, reliability, and quality. During 2021 Freedom Won ramped up to an output of nearly 20MWh per month, with the demand for our products ensuring phenomenal growth year on year. Freedom Won’s footprint extends across Africa and further afield into several other key markets.

• 2011: Completion of First EV Conversion, Converted Jeep to electric drive using in house engineering and design and LiFePO4 battery pack
• 2012: Freedom Won Founded. Freedom Won officially founded and began offering EV conversions
• 2015: Launched LiTE Range of LiFEPO4 Batteries. The now popular LiTE range of batteries launched, models ranging from the 5kWh to 2500kWh
• 2019: New Factory. Freedom Won moves to Kimbult Industrial Park facility, occupying 5000m2 of factory and office space
• 2021: 150 Employees. Team Freedom Won grows to 150 strong from being only 70 in 2020, with output reaches nearly 20MWh+ per month.
